Replant Environmental is a tree planting company that participates in afforestation and reforestation projects that help sequester carbon in addition to promoting ecological health across Canada. These projects are planted with the expectation that they will not be harvested in the future.

We have happily partnered with Replant in order to help us plant one tree for every five moving boxes rented in Edmonton.

Replant is headed by Jonathan “Scooter” Clark, a tree and environmental expert who is guided by a strong sense of purpose and duty towards the environment and planet.

Why We Chose Replant

Scooter has an amazing understanding of the needs of individual trees and the forest as a whole. He has shown extensive knowledge on the varying needs of different species knowing where and what conditions make them thrive.

Operationally, these trees are not planted by volunteers with little to no experience. Tree planting is serious business as it is exhausting and dangerous work in the wilderness.

Rather than using volunteers, Scooter boosts the tree survival rates by hiring professional planters that understand how to plant trees down to the specifics: correct depth, no lean, proper spacing, no j-roots or air pockets underneath, proper microsite selection...etc.

But what really made Replant stand out is that instead of planting a monoculture (single species) of trees and leaving them to fend for themselves, their forests are protected, biodiverse, and holistically managed.

By ensuring these forests are protected, these trees can be left alone to mature—many of which have not been harvested for over 100 years.

And by planting a biodiverse spectrum of trees, these forests as a whole can better adapt to climate changes and infestation. This ensures that if one species of tree falls, the rest of the forest doesn’t collapse.

Finally, with holistic management, the forest is complete with a biodiversity of animals and other plants that fulfill different niches and thus contributes to even greater carbon sequestration and ecosystem stability.

Replant has multiple plots of land in the maritime provinces where your trees will get planted.

They include 3 main projects in their mid-stages of development:

Charles Clark Forest Reserve

Timber River Community Forest

Walker Road Managed Forest

These three projects alone have a combined size of 490 acres of land. This can translate up to 1270 tonnes (2.8 million pounds) of CO2 captured every year when fully planted, with more projects in the works.

Replant also has many projects running in federal, provincial, and municipal parks to replant trees where the forests have been harvested, burned, or infested.

In 2021 they will have eco projects in six different provinces including Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland with some commercial reforestation work in BC and Alberta.

We highly believe in Replant's model and suggest looking through their website for more information on their projects here.
